The article explains how the recently elected President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, is rapidly losing support. Although Widodo garnered large amounts of support during his campaign, he approval ratings have declined dramatically during the first 100 days as President. The article goes on to explain that Widodo is losing support due to being tied up in a complex political scandal regarding police corruption.
I personally believe it is very alarming that the recently elected President of Indonesia has already lost much of his initial support. Due to being involved in a scandal involving government corruption, President Widodo has seen decreases in public approval instead of increases during his first 100 days in office. I feel that the President of a country being involved in government corruption to be alarming for that country because it means the government may not look out for the best of its citizens.
This article is important to politics in Indonesia because it deals with the President of the country. If the President of a country has low approval ratings then he will not be able to get much legislation passed. Without much public support, a President will not be effective in his role and will not be able to govern his country to the best of his potential ability. Widolo promised large amounts of reform during his presidential campaign. However, due to waning public support he will not be able to live up to his promises, causing him to lose even more public support.
