Bangladesh is in Stage 2 of the Demographic Transition Model. Bangladesh has a high birth rate that is much higher than its death rate. There is improvements in medical care, and increasing access to food, water, and sanitation. The fertility rate in Bangladesh is quite low for a Stage 2 country at 2.2 children per woman, but the life expectancy is very high at 70 years of age. The rate of natural increase in Bangladesh is low and as such, population is slowly increasing.
